Come with us behind the scenes on this full-blown outdoor kitchen built in Kennesaw, Georgia.
Over the course of eight weeks, we solved our homeowners biggest problem, being able to use and enjoy an unusable backyard. Making this area our client’s new favorite part about their home – which they lovingly refer to as “The Santa Macia Kitchen”.
Our clients-turned-friends, the Carroll’s from Kennesaw, Georgia had a 45 degree sloped backyard, only allowing them to use about 10 feet of area as soon as they walked off the steps from their upper deck. However, they had dreams of spending their evenings making great food surrounded by great company.
This backyard started out as a TOTAL backyard dream of a swimming pool with a swim up bar to the Santa Macia Grill, an in-ground trampoline for London, the family’s aspiring gymnast and Rays Flyer, and of course finished off with a fully stocked and built outdoor kitchen for Dad Brian.
Complete with 75 inch tv, ceiling fan, multiple electric heaters for winter time relaxation, outdoor refrigerator, converted, built in and connected to natural gas Black Top Grill, 4 Burner Napoleon Brand Gas Grill with infrared burner, and the focal point of the kitchen, the families heirloom Santa Maria Grill.
The Santa Maria grill weighs in at 700+ pounds, and had to be carried and set BY HAND, by 7 grown men! After transforming the gigantic slope eating up the majority of their backyard with a well-designed retaining wall, we began the real phase one on this gorgeous outdoor kitchen build.
Pro Tip: A lot of contractors will tell you they can build a retaining wall whenever and wherever you want it, however that is not always the case. Countless times we’ve been called in to replace a failing wall, regrade entire yards, which causes you – the homeowner – ridiculous and totally avoidable extra costs.

We kicked off with designing a 1800 square feet patio, using Belgard Brand origins 18 pavers for the body of the patio, and Origins 6 pavers with contrasting color, for the border, to build the base for the rough sawn pine “A-Frame” pavilion that would house their new outdoor kitchen.
From there we erected a 20’x24’ pavilion, with a ceiling made from exposed beams and Tongue and Groove.
Nestled in the medium stack fieldstone walls and flagstone countertops, are our client’s favorite types of grills – the Santa Maria grill, Black Top Grill and Napoleon Brand 4 Burner Gas Grill.
Fun Fact: The Carroll Family is closely related to the person responsible for showing America the Santa Maria Grill! Two buddies, on the same baseball team, brought the charm and flavor of the Santa Maria Grill.
We added storage for kitchen utensils, wood and serving materials as well as ran electricity to power the grills, ceiling fans, outdoor heaters and lighting – effectively taking this outdoor kitchen seamlessly from day to night and from summer to winter.
